INFORMATION ON LEVELS
Beginner Bootcamp
No experience or partner necessary. Learn the basics that are the foundation for Argentine Tango and allow you to dance socially by the end of the series. Join us at the practica at 11pm to practice what you've learned and on Sunday nights at ou Practilonga. Everyone needs the basics, so anyone wanting to brush up on those is welcome to signup. We also encourage men who are interested in learning following and women who are interested in leading, as it makes for better dancers through better understanding of the dance from the other side.
Level 1: Post-Bootcamp
Level 1 classes are designed for those that have completed the bootcamp but don't have very much dancing experience. These classes will cover topics such as (but not limited to) the ocho cortado, right turn, basic musicality, vals, milonga, turn sequences, fundamental technique, and a couple of more challenging moves like the boleo, sacada, and pasada in both close and open embrace. If you have just graduated from the bootcamp or have taken some more classes but want to solidify the foundation of your tango, this series is strongly encouraged. It's been our most popular series and it's no wonder why.
Level 2: Adv. Beginner/Intermediate
These classes are designed for those who have completed the bootcamp as well as our Level 1 series during a recent semester, or the equivalent thereof. Students signing up for these classes should be very comfortable with, and be willing to demonstrate in front of the class, the ocho cortado, the left and right turn, a sacada, a boleo, and should be able to differentiate between a tango, vals, and milonga. These classes will be more intensive and will build upon the technique and material presented in the Level 1 classes. Topics will include (but are not limited to) boleo sequences, intermediate musicality, ganchos, vals and milonga specific steps, volcadas, sacada sequences, and more complicated moves like colgadas and/or single axis turns.
**Tango Scholarships
Please note: the Yale Tango Club is a non-profit, volunteer run organization - all fees collected are simply to meet our operation costs. However, we know some tangueros are in tight financial circumstances and we don't want anyone to ever forego their tango education because they can't afford class fees. If you would like to attend classes but can't afford them, either use the contact form on this site to send an email or talk to the president directly to explain your circumstances and we will work something out.
