Yale Tango Club Teachers
Our celebrity Guest Instructors:
Robin Thomas and Katherine Gorsuch
A well-known and respected dancer and DJ, Robin's enthusiasm for tango can be seen most clearly in his wholehearted dedication to teaching. He believes that it is very important for students to dance simply and musically from the very beginning. Building that strong base of connection and musicality early, Robin believes, will allow even very new beginners to feel comfortable and confident on a crowded dance floor and will also lead to a more comprehensive and fluid understanding of more complicated techniques later on. Robin's teaching style reflects this philosophy, and his students appreciate the humorous and down-to-earth way he presents the material.
On the rare occasion that he is neither teaching nor DJing, Robin can always be seen on the dance floor, either working to expand his own understanding of tango, or simply enjoying the connection he works so hard to share with others. He is originally from Belfast, Ireland and now lives in New York City. More information about Robin including his DJ schedule can be found at his website: www.robinthomastango.com
Katherine GorsuchKatherine's hybrid expression of tango is derived from the many dance influences in her life. Her interest began as a child, exploring various dance forms; ballet, modern dance, and flamenco. At the age of 18 she began dancing tango in New York City. She is currently partnering Robin Thomas, and has also worked with: Adam Hoopengardner, Felipe Martinez, Henry Finkelstein, and Burak Koyuncu.
Katherine has taught at festivals in the US and in Europe and teaches regularly at Dance Manhattan, Princeton, Hunter College, Yale, and Wesleyan. She is also one of the founding members and organizers of the Hunter College Tango Club, established in 2006. Dancing in Europe, Buenos Aires, and across the United States has contributed to Katherine's inspirational musicality and connection. She brings a youthful energy and sweet madness to the dance floor.
